The highly anticipated 8-bit power-house known only as Retro City Rampage was released earlier this month (October 8th), on Playstation Network and Steam. Xbox live arcade will be releasing the game sometime in late November. This game is a tribute to the classic NES fun we all had back in the 80’s and 90’s. The game takes you through about 50 different missions, with 30 different vehicles to hijack, and 20 different weapons to assure a chaotic/nostalgic experience. Retro City Rampage combines 8 bit styles with today’s game mechanics, while also injecting fast paced action and an open world experience into the mix. This is every classic gamer’s wet dream rolled into one crazy arcade style action game. RCR visits many classic levels from famous 8-bit titles like Teenage mutant ninja turtles, The legend of zelda, Super mario bros’, Contra, and Bionic commando. The gameplay of RCR is aggressive as hell, forcing the player to frantically fight waves upon waves of enemies in a pseudo Grand Theft Auto (1997 – PC) fashion. Fans of 8-bit can’t wait to get lost in the chip tune chaos that is this game, and it’s finally here!
Released today is a post apocalyptic survival adventure game called “I am alive”. After the earth suffers a series of catastrophic natural disasters it plunges into total collapse, and a lone man finds himself on the search for his family. Released today (march 7th) via the xbox live arcade and playstation networks, this game revolves heavily on survival tactics and climbing around the endlessly dilapidated wastelands. From what i understand I am alive is not really an action game but does feature some action game mechanics. You can utilize many different weapons that you come across in the wasteland, but scarcity makes using bullets or arrows a tough decision. Many of the other humans you come across in the wasteland may not want to talk to you and can shun you if you rub them the wrong way. Pulling out a gun may cause the people around you to put up their hands in fear, or strategically surround you in retaliation. The game heavily involves smart decision making, because you never know who you are going to come across. The over world exploration looks like a great time. Climbing downed skyscrapers, swinging from pipes, running through mashed up trains; it reminds me so much of prince of persia but set in a post apocalyptic environment. I am super excited to get my hands on this one! I am alive looks like a survival master piece and looks to add a new flavor to the post apocalyptic genre! Check out the trailer!
Today I was pretty excited to find out (and maybe a little late on the news) that one of my favorite games from childhood will be coming out with a follow up to the SNES classic Syndicate! SYNDICATE is a cyberpunk cooperative tactical action game, that put the players in a futuristic dystopian world where corporations rule and criminal syndicates carry out the will of big business. This modernized version, released on xbox360 and PS3, is more of a first person shooter experience (as opposed to a birds eye view 3rd person style), but has taken the idea a lot further then the original. In 2012’s Syndicate, you can hack computers and even other humans who have had chips installed in their bodies and even have them do things for you (ex: commit suicide, cause distractions, kill your enemies). The action in Syndicate looks fast paced while also maintaining that tactical feel required to make it through missions like in the original. As you progress through the game breaking into your competitors technological laboratories, hacking and sneaking, you can extract chips from the heads of some important enemies, and in doing so, can utilize the technology from the chips to give your character bonuses and extra traits that will help you throughout the game. Judging by the trailer alone, the game looks pretty interesting. It has a very similar look to that of Bladerunner and the PC game Deus Ex. Being a huge fan of the original, i am certainly excited for this games release on Feb 21 2012. If your a fan of futuristic games this may peak your interest…. business is war!!!
The Metal Gear series gets a face lift + new prosthetic limbs, and a new and interestingly action based battle system similar to that of the God of War’s and Castlevania Lord of Shadows of the gaming world. Metal Gear Rising – Revengence follows Metal Gear mystery man Raiden and his samurai-styled sword play in this straight up action title. Release date still unknown, but this trailer does leave plenty to the imagination about Raiden’s capabilities with a katana. Whether it’s slicing your enemies into 5 pieces or climbing onto bosses and chopping them down like Wolverine would a sentinel, this game may shock previous Metal Gear fans. Partly because it doesn’t seem like snake is even remotely in the game, but more because this game focuses on action and fast paced action movie – like cut scenes. This may be a new classic in the metal gear franchise, but only time will tell how the fans will react! Check out this HD trailer!
